“My life is shaped by the urgent need to wander and observe, and my camera is my passport.”

— Steve McCurry

Our blog circle for this month is inspired by this fabulous quote by American photographer, Steve McCurry. It’s particularly apt for me, at the end of a summer where our adventures have been largely steered and dictated by the places that I want to photograph.

Our summer started with a trip to North Yorkshire.

Day one my camera led us on a trip to RSPB Bempton Cliffs to see some local wildlife. I was hoping to see puffins – second on my photography bucket list (after orcas) – and we did, but only tiny little flying blobs from a distance; gannets, on the other hand, were right there centre stage!

Day two, we went to Whitby Abbey, the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula.

^^ This image was taken with the Lensbaby Edge 35. I love how the Edge optic allows me to focus on both the foreground and the abbey.

Day three, Rievaulx Abbey, as featured in Transformers: The Last Knight.

Followed by Helmsley Castle:

After all the historical sights, my camera needed some room to breathe and space for creativity. The beach and the sky was calling.

And finally, on our journey home, we took in all the perspectives of York Minster.

Thanks for joining us again this month. Don’t forget, post your {quote} images on our Facebook page SHARE SIX or to our Instagram gallery by using #sharesix_quote. A new theme will be posted on 6th October.

Up next in our blog circle is my lovely friend and talented photographer, Janet Douglas. See Jan’s images and be sure to leave her some love!

Until next time, stay safe,

Ceri xx

  1. Ceri, thank you for sharing.  The abbey looks stunning and I love your final image and the technique you have used here. It is incredible. As always your abstracts are pure serenity.
