Share Six Blog Circle – May 2019 | Green – Lyme Disease Awareness Month

** May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month **

Lyme disease is a devastating illness that has directly impacted on of our Share Six team; Katherine will be sharing her experiences as part of this circle so please be sure to follow all the way around (see the link below). Thankfully my family hasn’t directly experienced the disease, but during our time living in MA it was a constant threat that gave me terrible anxiety. The Lyme Disease Awareness ribbon and our theme for this month is {green}.

Lyme disease is a spirochete bacterium that is transmitted by ticks. It is the fastest growing infectious disease, and is 1-1/2 times more common than breast cancer and 6 times more common than HIV. If treated with antibiotic therapy soon after transmission, the probability of successful treatment is much higher. If it goes untreated, it can infiltrate a person’s body and wreak great havoc.

Untreated Lyme disease is known to attack the heart and central nervous symptom. The numerous symptoms mimic other chronic illnesses such as ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), MS (Multiple Sclerosis), ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), Rheumatoid Arthritis Parkinson’s Disease, Lupus, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, as well as many others. Because of this, many patients with Lyme get misdiagnosed and go years not being properly treated, therefore furthering the progression of Lyme disease.

Awareness of this disease is imperative, as there are over 300,000 estimated new cases of Lyme disease each year in the United States alone (according to Johns Hopkins Medicine).

It was once believed that you always got a bullseye rash if you contracted the disease from a tick bite, but we now know that is not the case. Not everyone presents with a bullseye rash. Without a bullseye rash (and even with one), many people don’t connect their symptoms to the tick bite.

The more awareness we can bring, the better people can understand and know what to look for when searching for answers to their health problems that were unknowingly caused by a fateful tick bite. Please join us this month in spreading awareness.

30 Minutes in the Life – April 2019 | Farnham Park

Ceri-Herd-Photography-Photos-of-Boys-playing-at-Farnham-Park-Playground

Our family has been back in the UK for five months and we are almost *finally* in our own home. Now we can feel settled. Now we can get used to our new normal.

One new normal that will definitely become a habit is this playground. We absolutely love visiting Farnham Park in Surrey. There is so much to capture the kids imagination, and so much space to run and explore, we’re lucky that it is only ten minutes from home (our new home, yee-haw)!

Share Six Blog Circle – April 2019 | Orange and Purple

Ceri-Herd-Photography-tulips-hampshire-double-exposure

This month the Share Six team is highlighting psoriatic arthritis, using the ribbon colours [orange and purple] as our theme for April.

Psoriatic arthritis awareness poster. Purple and orange ribbon made in 3D paper cut and craft style on white background.Psoriatic arthritis is a type of arthritis that develops in some people with the skin condition psoriasis. It typically causes affected joints to become inflamed (swollen), stiff and painful. Like psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis is a long-term condition that can get progressively worse. Psoriatic Arthritis causes intense fatigue, can affect the eyes and hearing. Common symptoms are nail dystrophy and mood swings. In addition PSA can also adversely affect the heart, cause obesity, swelling and metabolic syndrome, along with diabetes and inflammatory bowel disease.

The Psoriasis Arthritis Awareness Project have made two films that highlight incredible stories of perseverance and courage. You can watch them here. Read more about living with the condition here.

It seemed fitting to try to create images for this month that reflect the juxtaposition of delicacy and strength. I wanted to show layers of complexity with double exposures, and find a softness that represents fragility.

Share Six Blog Circle – March 2019 | Food

09-Ceri-Herd-Photography-Boy-with-Lays-Packet-Smile-Kiss

March is Nutrition Month so Share Six is celebrating all things {food}!

National Nutrition Month is an educational campaign focusing on the significance of physical fitness as well as eating nourishing meals. Taking charge of your health contributes to overall well-being; as well as losing weight or staying at your ideal weight, which reduces risks of chronic illness such as heart disease and diabetes.

The great thing about this theme is that you can interpret it in so many different ways: still life and layflat, lifestyle or documentary. Oh I would love to have an image of a farmer ploughing his fields at sunset…but I don’t, haha!

I have to admit I hoped we would be settled into our new house by now so I’d have a chance to experiment with layflat set ups for the very first time, but alas it was not to be. The time for that will come soon enough (fingers crossed *knocks on wood*) so instead I’m sharing some images from last year that haven’t previously seen the light of day (and one that has because I love it/him/the memories and the taste of the cider doughnuts that come with seeing it).

Share Six Blog Circle – January 2019 | Wide

Ceri-Herd-Photography-Wide-ICM-Beach

Happy 2019!

Welcome to another year of Share Six. To kick off 2019, the theme is {wide}: wide angle, wide open apertures, or wide open spaces.

The new year is supposed to be a time for looking forward, but I’m still looking back, reflecting on the events of the past few months and the places I’ve been lucky enough to experience over the past four years. When I thought about our theme for this month, I thought of {wide} in terms of breadth and depth. I was instantly transported back October 2018 and to the wild open spaces of Cape Cod:
