Share Six Blog Circle – December 2019 | Light

The December Share Six theme is {light}.

To shine your brightest light is to be who you truly are.”
― Roy T. Bennett

The interpretation opportunities with this theme are truly endless so, my wonderful photographer friends, you have no excuse not to share your images with us this month. If you have never shared an image before, this is your chance. Post your {Light} images on our Facebook page SHARE SIX or to our Instagram gallery by using #sharesix_light. A new theme will be posted on 6th January 2020.

Here are a few of my recent captures that were inspired by the light more so than the situation or moment. The first is an early morning dog walk on the frosty heath.

Just an ordinary moment with a favourite book and a hot chocolate, but the light hitting his face compelled me to pick up my camera:

She often looks at me like this. She is wondering why I’m lying on the floor but not next to her; she knows it isn’t possible to cuddle from a distance. This is “puzzled in a perfect spot of light”:

“I am the light”:

Our house with Christmas lights at sunset. It doesn’t look nearly so pretty without the movement, but I do love the Christmas lights:

Thanks for joining us again this month. Up next is my lovely friend and extremely talented photographer, Lynne Grant. Click here to see her images and be sure to leave her some love!

Until next time,

30 Minutes in the Life – March 2019 | Relief

ceri-herd-photography-hampshire-photographer-01

Four months back living in the UK and four months feeling disconnected from my camera.

You could say I’ve been in a photographic rut. Life took over and I couldn’t make it stop. It’s hardly surprising, I suppose, that when life feels unsettled your focus shifts to finding stability, and the ups and downs of being creative certainly don’t go hand-in-hand that!

But just like the change in seasons, life is turning a corner and soon we’re going to start the next chapter. I am forcing myself to pick up my camera, forcing myself to edit and forcing myself to share. I want to document our lives when the tide changes and I need to be back up to speed when it does.

And so, this weekend I forced the family to take a trip to the beach. My excuse was a new gadget – a neutral density filter – to test, but my reason was to stretch my creative wings. It was such a relief to feel connected again.

30 Minutes in the Life | January 2019 – Play Time

“Thirty Minutes in the Life” features ladies from around the world as we capture 30 minutes in our lives as mothers, wives, daughters, sisters and friends {and photographers}.  This is a blog circle so please be sure to visit the next photographer in the circle.

With days seemingly colder and darker than all of 2018 and constantly feeling the chill, we haven’t felt much like getting out and about these past few weeks. We did, however, manage a quick half an hour at the boys’s favourite playground just before school was back in session. I say “favourite” but I think in reality it is the only one they know in this corner of the world. We clearly need to explore more! I hope they don’t grow out of these playground trips too soon. I will just have to treasure each and every one until they do. My favourite Lensbaby, the Edge 80, made the perfect accompaniment for our play time and my own feeling of nostalgia.

Share Six Blog Circle – January 2019 | Wide

Ceri-Herd-Photography-Wide-ICM-Beach

Happy 2019!

Welcome to another year of Share Six. To kick off 2019, the theme is {wide}: wide angle, wide open apertures, or wide open spaces.

The new year is supposed to be a time for looking forward, but I’m still looking back, reflecting on the events of the past few months and the places I’ve been lucky enough to experience over the past four years. When I thought about our theme for this month, I thought of {wide} in terms of breadth and depth. I was instantly transported back October 2018 and to the wild open spaces of Cape Cod:

30 Minutes in the Life Blog Circle | November 2018 – Cape Cod

Ceri-Herd-Photography-Hampshire-UK-Cape-Cod-Boardwalk-Beach

“Thirty Minutes in the Life” features ladies from around the world as we capture 30 minutes in our lives as mothers, wives, daughters, sisters and friends {and photographers}.  This is a blog circle so please be sure to visit the next photographer in the circle.

It’s been a while since my last blog post; a short while but time enough for a world of change.

A little over a month ago our lives were turned upside-down and, cutting a long and complex story short, my family and I are back living permanently in the UK.

With all the stress and instability that came from sudden and unexpected upheaval, photography fell by the wayside. As we settle into our new normal I’m hoping I can get back on track, and I’m thrilled that my return to blogging is with a new group of photographers, the 30 Minutes in the Life ladies. Each month I will be sharing a selection of images taken (yes, you guessed it) over the course of half an hour. This month I’m sharing images from our last-minute day trip to Cape Cod. I’d been to the Cape with my parents last October, but the three boys had never been. When you don’t have a deadline to do something, it’s harder to make that thing a priority, but I couldn’t leave our Massachusetts home without taking them there first. Fortunately we were able to find a free day amongst the chaos so we set out to make the most of it.

This 30 Minutes was the first stop on our trip around the Cape: Boardwalk Beach, Sandwich
