Share Six Blog Circle – October 2018 | Shooting Through

Ceri-Herd-Photography-Massachusetts-Fall-New_England

Life has been getting in the way of the blog recently, but I am shooting-shooting-shooting and working on some exciting things, so keep an eye out for some catch-up posts and news sharing soon. But for now, to the task at hand.

This month the Share Six theme is {Shooting Through}. There are so many ways to interpret this theme, but the way I see it, it essentially comes down to layers and framing. Whether you deliberately hold an object in front of your lens, where the image becomes as much about the object and the way it manipulates the image as it is about the subject itself, or use natural elements or objects already in situ, it is all about creating dynamic interest and depth to your image.

With the rapid onset of autumn, this week I’ve found myself drawn to all the magical colours of New England, how they play off against each other as the change takes place at different speeds. I started at seeing the pops of red and orange between the greens, and as is often the case, I started to play:

Share Six Blog Circle – July 2018 | Curves

Lensbaby Burnside 35mm Share Six Curves plant

The theme for this month’s Share Six blog circle is {Curves}.

My take on the theme may be a little tenuous but I’ve been waiting for the right opportunity to share some images taken with the latest addition to my lens collection: the Lensbaby Burnside 35mm. The Burnside not only has gorgeous creamy tones, with the right application it creates beautifully curved bokeh. See what I did there? Look for the swirling curves that draw your eye to the subject:

Inspired by Life Blog Circle | May 365

Ceri Herd Photography | Massachusetts Photographer

Summer is here, summer is here! One week left of school and we’re so ready for summer to really start!

Today however, I’m looking back to May: the weather was changeable, Spring was barely springing, I got a new lens and a new website, and I spent more than two days photographing only dandelions:

10 on 10 Blog Circle | May 2018

Yay, it’s 10 on 10 time again! This month I want to share 10 images I took while we were in North Carolina for Spring Break: sunsets and the sea!

We went to the Outer Banks, a narrow strip of islands up to 25 miles off the coast of the mainland. The wonderful thing for photographers about this place is that one evening you can watch the blue light over the east-facing sea with the sun setting behind you and the next you can watch the golden light of the sun setting over the inlet towards the mainland. So many opportunities to get creative!

Inspired by Life Blog Circle | A month of Lensbaby

I’m thrilled to be joining another group of talented photographers for a new monthly blog circle. I’m going to be using the {Inspired by Life} posts to share some of my favourites images from the previous month’s 365. I haven’t admitted it publically but I kick-started my second 365 this January. I’m yet to compile the results of my first 365 (2015-2016) so I was reluctant to start another but a new lens for Christmas and the learning curve that followed meant a solid month of practice was necessary. What better way to start a 365 than a month of the project already complete!

As many of my photographer friends know, I lusted after all the Lensbaby lenses for quite some time. It was only a matter of time until one found its way to me. Christmas 2017 my Lensbaby wishes came true and I became the proud owner of an Edge 80. Unsurprisingly, given my love of dreamy softness, it didn’t take long for it to feel like home.

Before I get around to the 365 images I thought I’d share with you my starting point: Christmas Day. We were also brought a beautiful winter storm, so my very first images with my Lensbaby were through windows out onto a snowy wonderland.
