This month’s Share Six theme is {revive}:

re·vive | \ ri-ˈvīv  \revivedreviving

revive

intransitive verbto return to consciousness or life become active or flourishing again

transitive verb: to restore to consciousness or life: to restore from a depressed, inactive, or unused state bring back: to renew in the mind or memory

It’s been a long long winter. I think I’ve felt every minute of it. Although we’re coming out of the darkness of winter, there is a cloud that hangs over us all. I find myself searching again for things to calm my busy mind, soothe my anxiety and revive my creative soul. I am thankful that the light is returning and Spring is beginning to show it’s colours.

Thanks to the return of the light, I find I’m more inspired to create and experiment again.

Share Six Blog Circle – September 2021 | Quote

“My life is shaped by the urgent need to wander and observe, and my camera is my passport.”

— Steve McCurry

Our blog circle for this month is inspired by this fabulous quote by American photographer, Steve McCurry. It’s particularly apt for me, at the end of a summer where our adventures have been largely steered and dictated by the places that I want to photograph.

Our summer started with a trip to North Yorkshire.

Day one my camera led us on a trip to RSPB Bempton Cliffs to see some local wildlife. I was hoping to see puffins – second on my photography bucket list (after orcas) – and we did, but only tiny little flying blobs from a distance; gannets, on the other hand, were right there centre stage!

Day two, we went to Whitby Abbey, the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula.

^^ This image was taken with the Lensbaby Edge 35. I love how the Edge optic allows me to focus on both the foreground and the abbey.

Day three, Rievaulx Abbey, as featured in Transformers: The Last Knight.

Followed by Helmsley Castle:

After all the historical sights, my camera needed some room to breathe and space for creativity. The beach and the sky was calling.

And finally, on our journey home, we took in all the perspectives of York Minster.

Thanks for joining us again this month. Don’t forget, post your {quote} images on our Facebook page SHARE SIX or to our Instagram gallery by using #sharesix_quote. A new theme will be posted on 6th October.

Share Six Blog Circle – March 2021 | Frozen

04-Snow-Falling-Lensbaby-Edge-80-Dog-Playing-Ceri-Herd-Fleet-Photographer

The theme for this month’s Share Six Blog Circle is {Frozen}. Fortunately, here in Hampshire – southern England – we’ve not been quite as frozen as some of my Share Six colleagues. However, when we did have snow and ice earlier in the year, you can be sure I photographed it!

I absolutely adore using the Lensbaby Edge 80 whenever it snows. Perhaps that’s because when I first got the lens – my very first Lensbaby – I did a 30 Day change with it. I took a photo with it every single day. It was mid-winter, we were living in Massachusetts and we spent the whole month of January surrounded by multiple feet of snow. But that nostalgia aside, I love the multi-dimensional focal plan you can use with the Lensbaby Edge optics, as it really helps to emphasise being surrounded by falling snowflakes. With an Edge optic, you see depth, not just a single flat focal plane.

That’s why, when we woke up to snow one January morning and before anyone else was ready to be outside, I reached straight for my Edge 80 without even a second thought.

If you’re interested in finding out more about Lensbaby lenses, please leave a comment below!  Very excitingly, I can offer 10% off any full price Lensbaby order when you go to lensbaby.com and use the discount code: WHERD at the checkout.

I’m throwing in a few extra this month too, just for fun. Once the rest of the family were ready to head outside I switched to my Canon 24-70 2.8L for weather sealed versatility and off we went!
