Share Six Blog Circle – May 2021 | Light Inspired

The theme for May’s Share Six Blog Circle is {Light Inspired}. As photographers, we are always searching for inspiration, ways to create something new or beat our way out of a rut. Ultimately that inspiration often from the light that surrounds our subject.

The past few weeks I’ve been (massively) inspired by a new lens – the Lensbaby Velvet 85 – and a new set of Lensbaby Omni Filters – the colour expansion pack. The colour crystal omni wands create and manipulate light in a creative, extraordinary and incredibly inspiring way, so for me these images are the epitome of {Light Inspired}.

Share Six Blog Circle – May 2020 | Simplicity

Ceri-Herd-Photography-Tulip-Lensbaby-Omni

This month’s Share Six theme is {simplicity}.

As I sit down to prepare this blog, we are hearing reports that the UK is now the worst hit country in Europe, in terms of deaths due to COVID-19. We’ve been at home now for over 6 weeks, only leaving the house for dog walks and to get essential supplies. Although it seemed daunting at first, we are in fact living a simpler life and I definitely have a newfound appreciation for the simple things.

I planted tulips in my garden last October. It being our first year in this house, I had no idea what other flowers were going to appear this Spring, but tulips are my absolute favourite and I wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to have some as soon as possible. When I planted them, little did I know how much energy I would invest in watching them grow, diligently waiting for the right time to study them with my camera.

It’s amazing to me that I can find such joy from one flower. I have spent the last 18 months feeling uninspired, looking further and further afield to create something that I felt worthy of sharing. But now I see it. In the right light, with the right tools, there is magic in this little corner of my garden. It was right in front of me, just waiting for me to be ready to see it.

Take a step back from the rat race. Appreciate what you have.

Thanks for joining us again this month. Don’t forget, post your {simplicity} images on our Facebook page SHARE SIX or to our Instagram gallery by using #sharesix_simplicity. A new theme will be posted on 6th June.

Share Six Blog Circle – April 2019 | Orange and Purple

Ceri-Herd-Photography-tulips-hampshire-double-exposure

This month the Share Six team is highlighting psoriatic arthritis, using the ribbon colours [orange and purple] as our theme for April.

Psoriatic arthritis awareness poster. Purple and orange ribbon made in 3D paper cut and craft style on white background.Psoriatic arthritis is a type of arthritis that develops in some people with the skin condition psoriasis. It typically causes affected joints to become inflamed (swollen), stiff and painful. Like psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis is a long-term condition that can get progressively worse. Psoriatic Arthritis causes intense fatigue, can affect the eyes and hearing. Common symptoms are nail dystrophy and mood swings. In addition PSA can also adversely affect the heart, cause obesity, swelling and metabolic syndrome, along with diabetes and inflammatory bowel disease.

The Psoriasis Arthritis Awareness Project have made two films that highlight incredible stories of perseverance and courage. You can watch them here. Read more about living with the condition here.

It seemed fitting to try to create images for this month that reflect the juxtaposition of delicacy and strength. I wanted to show layers of complexity with double exposures, and find a softness that represents fragility.

Share Six Blog Circle – February 2018 | Colour

It’s Share Six blog circle time again. These months seem to fly by with increasingly more speed!

This month we’re looking at {Colour} or {Color} (depending on your nationality and/or location). It’s such a great theme for this time of year, and I hope it helps you, as it does for me on this unusually grey day, to look beyond the winter skies, the snow and the ice. Whether you focus on a multitude of colour or a single colour pop, the possibilities are endless. I can’t wait to be cheered through the depths of winter by the colourful happiness that will flood the Share Six FB wall and IG feed!

My images this month were all taken in January: a trip to New York City, my favourite flowers, a sunrise and a sunset. That makes up a little bit of everything and they cover a little bit of everything colourful too: some abstract, some less so; some pop, some mishmash, some gentle softness of blush. What type of colour is your favourite?

The colour of Kate Spade’s window display immediately caught my attention, but the reflection of the New York skyline in the window against their gift wrap skyline, made me stop and look a while longer.Massachusetts Photographer | Share Six Colour Color | ©CeriHerdPhotography

Yet again, yes I know, there were more than six. What can I say? I’m an indecisive rule-breaker!

Thank you for joining us for another month at Share Six. Please continue around the circle by clicking HERE. I can’t wait to see how the exceptionally talented Lynne of Lynne Grant Photography interpreted this month’s theme.

Join us for this month’s theme by posting your {colour} images on our Facebook page at SHARE SIX and to our Instagram gallery, by tagging #sharesix and #sharesix_colour or #sharesix_color. A new theme will be posted on 6th March.
